The course of instruction begins with a free Introductory Presentation. This involves no commitment to learn Transcendental Meditation and lasts about an hour. These presentations are sometimes held in the form of a public lecture; however it is often possible to arrange to see a teacher individually, by appointment.
Following this presentation, for those who decide to learn, the Transcendental Meditation course is taught in four 90 minute sessions and includes personal instruction. The technique is effective from the first instruction, enabling beginners to meditate at home from the first day. The meetings on the following three days give information about how to get maximum benefit from your meditation, explain how the physiology eliminates accumulated stress, and look ahead at what can be realistically expected from regular practice.
There is also a very thorough optional one year follow up, which includes individual and group meetings(monthly), to ensure correct practice.
A single course fee covers the course of instruction, the one year follow-up and any extra individual tuition you may require.
The cost of the TM Course is £390, £290 for students/those receiving unemployment benefit.
Take time to examine the structure in more detail below and then ring one of our teachers to arrange an Introductory Presentation. The TM technique cannot be learned from a book, video or audio tape.
STEPS 1 - 3 FREE INTRODUCTORY PRESENTATION
This is free and involves no commitment to learn. At this informal presentation, the teacher will give a broad overview of Transcendental Meditation, and will answer any questions you may have. There will be no ‘hard sell’ and you will not be expected to make any commitment. Feel free to bring friends or family.
The presentation includes points such as:
- what is Transcendental Meditation
- what you can realistically expect to get out of the practice
- a little about the scientific research on TM
- how Transcendental Meditation works
- why TM is effortless and how it differs from other systems of meditation and relaxation: no concentration involved
- origins of TM
- the content of the four 1.5 hour sessions of instruction
Afterwards you may decide to sign up for a course, or you may decide to give it further thought. If you decide to learn, you will have the opportunity to make an appointment for instruction and have a personal chat with a teacher.
STEPS 4 - 7 LEARNING TRANSCENDENTAL MEDITATION
Instruction takes place in four 1.5 hour sessions on four consecutive days. The first session is always one-to-one instruction where you practise Transcendental Meditation for the first time; in the three subsequent lessons, more information and instruction are given on the basis of practice at home.
Step 4–Personal instruction in Transcendental Meditation after which you practise the technique at home(either later on the same day or the following morning).
Step 5–Verifying that you are doing TM correctly:
- Practical guidelines for correct practice
- Verification of correct practice
- Questions and discussion
Step 6–Detailed explanation of the mechanics of TM:
- How the TM technique removes physical and psychological stress
- Discussion of experiences
- Questions
Step 7–Development of consciousness:
- The practical benefits of regular practice of Transcendental Meditation
- Full human development: understanding the mechanics of the development of higher states of consciousness
By the end of the course you will have all the knowledge and experience you need to meditate correctly and confidently on your own at home. You are self sufficient–dependent on no one but yourself in order to get the benefits from TM. However, once the basic course has been completed there is a one year follow-up and support programme.
