More than 600 scientific studies verifying the wide-ranging benefits of the Transcendental Meditation technique have been conducted. Three hundred and sixty scientists in 30 countries have carried out these studies at over 200 medical schools & universities. No other form of meditation has this breadth and depth of research results backing it up. It is also significant that the studies have been conducted at the most prestigious universities and medical schools, such as Harvard, Stanford, UCLA, and Yale.

Research has appeared in 350 peer-reviewed journals. Studies have been published in such leading journals as the International Journal of Neuroscience, the Journal of Psychosomatic Medicine, the AMA’s ‘Archives’ journal, the Journal of Clinical Psychology, and many others.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), the premier body overseeing medical research in the United States, has given $26M for scientists to research Transcendental Meditation. Such research grants are highly competitive and very hard to get.

Improvements in hypertension, cholesterol, angina, smoking, alcohol and drug use, anxiety and post-traumatic stress syndrome in Transcendental Meditation practitioners have been described in these studies. The findings are especially interesting because they do not result from focusing on the individual problem, but by enhancing the person’s own self repair mechanisms.
